Charleston, WV – Massey Energy plans to increase metallurgical coal production as much as 62 percent to meet demand from rapidly recovering Asian economies.

Massey already has deals to sell 10 million tons of metallurgical coal this year and hopes to sell as much as 2 million more, Chief Executive Don Blankenship told analysts during a conference call Wednesday. Overall, Massey expects to ship 37 million to 41 million tons of coal in 2010.
