Non-resident TXF_DATA Attribute Cause Data Loss in Microsoft Windows Vista
March 20, 2010 | Leave a Comment
In Microsoft Windows Vista, hard drive partitions have a number of different attributes to perform specific operations. On such attribute is TXF_DATA. It attribute uses $LOGGED_UTILITY_STREAM attribute type for storing additional data for the files and directories, which have been or are part of the transaction. This attribute is stored in Master File Table (MFT). This is very critical component for execution of data in Windows file system but sometimes it may make your NTFS file system partition inaccessible and cause serious data loss. In such critical situations, you are required to go for Windows Data Recovery to get your valuable data back.
For example, on a computer system, which is running Microsoft Windows Vista, you attempt to access file from an NTFS file system partition that has a non-resident TXF_DATA attribute, you encounter file corruption errors from NTFS file system. Furthermore, if you run Chkdsk.exe tool for checking affected hard drive partition for errors, the tool doesn’t detect and solve the corruption. Thus, applications may not work properly.
You might encounter this issue if any of the below conditions are true:
You design and manipulate the NTFS file system partition on non-Windows-based OS, like Linux.
You use an imaging application for re-imaging the Windows-based OS non-Windows-based OS , like Linux.
Root of the problem
The above problem takes place as NTFS file system doesn’t recognize a non-resident TXF_DATA attribute. If you operate the NTFS file system partition through non-Windows-based OS, resident TXF_DATA attribute might unexpectedly change to the non-resident attribute.
This issue may also occur due to damage to the NTFS file system. File system may get damaged due to a number of reasons including virus infection, improper system shutdown and so forth. In all such cases, Windows Recovery is essential to retrieve lost data.
Resolution
If the problem is caused by TXF_DATA attribute, download and install hotfix offered by Microsoft. In case of file system corruption, opt for Windows Data Recovery Software to get your valuable data back.
The Windows Data Recovery applications use high-end scanning techniques to ensure absolute and quick recovery in all data loss situations. They have simple and interactive graphical user interface and thus allow you to carry out Do It Yourself recovery. The tools have read-only conduct and thus do not alter original data on the drive.
Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery is the most advanced and efficient application for successful recovery of lost data. It recovers data from FAT32, VFAT, NTFS and NTFS5 file system partitions. The software works well with Microsoft Windows 7, Vista, 2003, XP and 2000.
