Watch: Panda Bear – You Can Count On Me

Panda Bear has unveiled the trippy, Danny Perez produced video for ‘You Can Count On Me’.

Panda Bear has always paid attention to the way that visuals intersect with his music. Returning with ‘Tomboy’ the songwriter has enlisted the help of some notable directors to match his output to video accompaniment.

The latest video in the ‘Tomboy’ series sees Panda Bear hook up with Danny Perez. ‘You Can Count On Me’ is a blissful track flecked with electronics, but Perez finds a psychedelic feel within the songwriting.

Giving ‘You Can Count On Me’ a tripped out video, you can check out the clip below…

Animal Collective, meanwhile, are set to re-group in January. Pitchfork reckons that the band have around 15 new tracks to take into the studio, as the band attempt to craft a successor to
‘Merriweather Post Pavilion’.

Avey Tare revealed the timescale to Madison.com in a recent interview. “We’re really excited about this record … and it’s been really fun jamming with those guys again.”

Elsewhere, Dave Portner told Baltimore Sun that the new material is informed by living close to Maryland. The musician revealed that the new songs are “informed more by being in a wooded setting, by the nature in Maryland”.

“We’re pretty psyched on where most of these songs are,” he said. “I’m sure they’ll change a little, but as a set they are pretty sweet right now.”

Shades of Grey: Showcase of B&W Photography

Photography is such a vast field filled with so many amazing techniques and tricks for taking the world around us and stealing moments from it with often breathtaking results. One easy way for photographers to add emotion and impact to their captures is to strip them of color. B&W photography has such a knack for delivering such impactful pieces simply by taking them down to more basic levels and allowing the tone to be set in a much more subtle, yet evocative way.

Today we take a look at some truly inspiring images that use this raw energy that a B&W composition can instill. The artists’ work that we have turned our spotlight onto is devoid of colors, but in these stirring shades of grey you will find some powerful pieces speaking boldly to their viewers. We hope you enjoy.

EXCLUSIVE STREAM: Eisley’s New Album

Indie-pop quintet Eisley is a family band from Tyler, Texas – three sisters, a brother, and a cousin – and on March 1, the twentysomething rockers of the DuPree clan will drop their third album, The Valley, via Equal Vision Records. Hear an exclusive stream of the entire album below!

The album, their first since 2007′s Combinations, chronicles the personal hardships, aka “The Valleys,” of the DuPrees, including a failed marriage and a broken engagement.

“There’s a sense of self-empowerment in the lyrics, and sometimes downright desperation,” says Stacy DuPree, the band’s lead singer and songwriter alongside her sister Sherri. “I couldn’t help but want to throw myself into these songs and try to make a point about letting something very painful go, and in the process gaining strength and being able to walk away.”

The result: 11 hyper-melodic indie-pop anthems that nod to moody ’70s soft-rockers Fleetwood Mac. The songs swell with dramatic layers of piano, violin, electric guitar lines, and Sherri and Stacy’s intertwining and harmonious wails.

What do you think of Eisley’s The Valley? Tell us in the comment section below. Eisley are on tour now with Rooney. See their dates here.

Stream: Lykke Li – Wounded Rhymes

Lykke Li has made her new album ‘Wounded Rhymes’ available to stream for free.

Lykke Li is a deeply individual artist. Sure, Sweden may be producing intelligent pop by the barrel-load right now, but the provocative young singer has a keen sense of who she is and where she is going.

Returning with her second album, ‘Wounded Rhymes’ is a confident return from the Scandinavian. Stylistically, Lykke Li flies between two poles – the sensitive, Joni Mitchell type and all out pop abandon.

Recent single ‘Get Some’ was an attempt to get away from the ‘pure, innocent songwriter’ tag. “I just liked the drum beat. I did the drum beat and built the song around it. As for the track itself, it sums up how I am. I’m musically schizophrenic. I’d love to make an album, just me and my guitar, singing my heart out, whilst crying live on track” she told ClashMusic.

“At the same time, I love the energetic, bad-ass sound. I’m a split personality. Deep down I want to be like Joni Mitchell, but I’m still young and I have the energy, so I might as well bang the drum a few times. Then when I’m older, I’ll have plenty of time to get more depressing.”

Now fans can judge the new album for themselves. Lykke Li has made ‘Wounded Rhymes’ available to stream for free – check it out below…

Aretha Franklin – The Great American Songbook

It’s ironic that Aretha Franklin’s first big hit, "R-E-S-P-E-C-T," is a cover version of a song first done by soul man Otis Redding. Franklin covered that song so completely that her version is considered the definitive version of the song – a fact that even the great Redding acknowledged. The irony is that Franklin’s career as a pop singer started as an interpreter of the canon of the Great American Songbook.

Taylor Swift Gets Valentine’s Day ‘Enchanted’ Cover From Owl City

Adam Young posts his own version of her song, which was rumored to be about him.

Taylor Swift famously writes songs about the guys in her life. And while she doesn’t always say specifically who those songs are about, it seems one of the subjects of her melodic affections, Owl City’s Adam Young, has figured out that he’s the guy behind the Speak Now track “Enchanted.” (Swift hinted to Yahoo! Music last year that the song might have been about him.)

“The track is absolutely gorgeous and I’m so tremendously honored that Taylor would write such an elegant song and thereby offer a gracious nod in my direction. Needless to say, I was lost for words and utterly smitten. I couldn’t stop smiling,” he wrote Monday (February 14) on his website. “I figured such an eloquent gesture should be reciprocated by the most polite, heartfelt and respectful response I could possibly muster. It’s no secret that I’m a bit shy, so naturally music was the most articulate way of attempting such a sincere endeavor. How does one respond to such a personal outpouring of emotion and sentiment? I tossed and turned over that one.”

As a gesture fitting for a day like Valentine’s Day, Young wrote a response to Swift’s song. “They say ‘timing is everything’ and that brings us to now. Today is Valentine’s Day,” he said. “And thus, here is my reply…”

On the synthy ballad, he sings to the star, “I was never in love with someone else/ I never had somebody waiting on me/ ‘Cause you were all of my dreams come true/ And I just wish you knew/ Taylor, I was so in love with you.”

He went on to post a photo of himself with the star. The pair stand smiling, hugging one another in the photo. “Everything about you is beautiful. You’re an immensely charming girl with a wonderful heart and more grace and elegance than I know how to describe. You are a true princess from a dreamy fairy tale; a modern Cinderella,” he goes on to say in the blog post. “I’m terribly sorry it’s taken me such a long time to reply but I figured Valentine’s Day was the perfect time to write this note to you and simply say… I was enchanted to meet you too.”

What do you think of Adam Young’s gesture to Taylor Swift? Share your thoughts in the comments!
